Okay, so I didn't go on the game drive, but I had my reasons, the primary one being that I'd already had four beers. Apart from that, on small game reserves like Pilanesburg, you tend to have the traffic jams that Marnie described to me. They spotted a couple of elephants and a large lion, but as the news spread, jeeps gradually outnumbered wildlife.
I took a subtler (and lazier) approach, strolling around the camp grounds in the early morning. A ranger was out taking pot shots at the baboons with a pellet gun, which was justified given a gang of them had attempted a break in (they can open door handles). On the avian front, two red-billed hornbills were perching on car side mirrors and attacking their reflections, while the curious little franklins got quite close, though perhaps they though my fat toe was a particularly juicy grub.
