South African Glossary of Terms

Braai:        A South African barbeque, referring both to the grill itself and the accompanying meal. The cornerstone of this meal is meat, meat, meat

Doos:         An idiot

Howzit?:     Typical greeting, short for, "How is it going?"

Izzit?:         Is that so?

Jol:             A drinking session

Just Now:   Not now, but soon. Unfortunately, "soon" could mean "15 minutes" or "whenever I get around to it" 

Lakker:     Good or cool

Oke:           A dude

Shame:      Literally, "that's a shame", but when said whimsically,   "that's so cute/ funny". This annoys Marnie to no end
